Riverside
I’m sure that the water won’t mind if we
Rest here for the night and leave before sunrise
I’m sure that the current won’t mind if we
Rest our bodies for the night and leave before sunrise
I’m sure that the water won’t mind if we
Rest here for the night and leave before sunrise
Wild berries and cold water are our mouths delights
We set a fire beneath the moon’s light
No on else to disturb us we enjoy the night
And fall asleep warm side by side
Up at dawn I can see your breath the morning light
Warms our skin as we bathe in riverside
The waters cold and it’s dangerous
But it brings me to life
So we stand to read tongues of green and white
I’m sure that the water won’t mind if we
Rest here for the night and leave before sunrise
I’m sure that the current won’t mind if we
Rest our bodies for the night and leave before sunrise
I’m sure that the current won’t mind if we
Rest our bodies for the night and leave before sunrise
Wild berries and sweet Kisses are our mouths delights
We sit near the fire under the moon’s light
No one else to disturb us we enjoy the night
And fall asleep warm side by side
Up at dawn I can see your breath the morning light
Warms our love as we bathe in riverside
The waters cold and it’s dangerous
But it brings me to life
So we stand to read tongues of green and white
I’m sure that the water won’t mind if we
Rest here for the night and leave before sunrise
I’m sure that the current won’t mind if we
Rest our bodies for the night and leave before sunrise

Graves

Graves
I’ve found beauty
In the muddy water
Answers don’t come quite as quickly as they once did
I’ve found peace again
With the word “God”
But God’s not quite the same old man I met when I was ten
I’ve been weeping lately
Might be the most I’ve ever looked like you:
My mind is hateful, my hands are cruel,
From my mouth saltwater spews
My throats an open grave
But I’ve heard stories
Of You, graves, resurrected men,
A history of bringing death to end
So won’t You please speak and give us life again?
Though things may not be
Quite the same as they used to be,
I still find myself in that old story
Loud and clear my actions speak
And some words remain steady
Like when my voice rings out above the crowd,
“Kill him now, kill him now.
Kill him now, kill him now!
Kill him now, just kill him now!”
My throat screams for the grave
But I’ve heard stories,
Of You, Graves, resurrected men,
A history of bringing death to end
So won’t you finally speak and spring up life again?
Maybe it wasn’t the wrath of God?
Maybe we’ve held on to ancient thoughts.
Surely if God is God, He will take the risk
And claim us all as His children!
Maybe it wasn’t the wrath of God?
Maybe we’ve held on to ancient thoughts.
Surely if God is God, She will take the risk
And claim us all as Her children!

Soil
04:19

(Grow! Grow! Grow! Grow!
Grow! Grow! Grow! Grow up!)
Would the Oak say to the Pine,
“Not so many needles next time.
Try a few leaves you’ll do just fine
If you look a little more like me.”
Or the Sycamore to the Blackberry Vine,
“Just let go your thorns,
Grow your branches tall like mine.
We’d all be better if you looked a little more like me.”
Nah, but we!
We don’t all have the same soil
We don’t all have the same soil
We don’t all have, no we don’t all have
Would the Sunflower say to the Lilly of the Valley,
“Why do you hide in the shade?
Come forth and show your colors proudly.
You would be more _____ if you grew like me.”
Or the Sequoia to a Sapling in a fire,
“Maybe if you would have worked a little harder,
Reached a little higher
Then you could stand strong like me.”
Nah nah nah
Nah, but we!
We don’t all have the same soil
We don’t all have the same soil
We don’t all have, no we don’t all have
Same soil, same soil
Nah, but we!
We don’t all have the same soil
We don’t all have the same soil
We don’t all have, no we don’t all have

Coyote
The coyotes they sing out here
In the dark before the cockadoodle crows
And the freedom of daylight draws near
The coyotes howl a painful song to my ears
And I hear less hope than a sad Negro Spiritual
Sung by mothers in tears
So I asked Coyote
Why he does the things he does
And he replied to me softly,
“Because I am my father’s son.”
But I told him that,
“Things can change
They don’t have to stay the same”
But he stopped me and he said
“Arghhh-wooooo
I’m a slave to the moon
Arghhh-wooooo
I’m a Coyote and it’s just what we do”
The coyotes
Oh, they waste their time out here
In the dark chasing their own tails
Running in circles of fear
So I asked Coyote
Why he does the things he does
And he replied to me softly,
“Because I am my father’s son.”
But I told him that,
“Things can change
They don’t have to stay the same”
But he stopped me and he said
“Arghhh-wooooo
I’m a slave to the moon
Arghhh-wooooo
I’m a Coyote and it’s just what we do”
Oooo, but I told him that
“You don’t have to have
the bitter taste in your mouth no more
from the sour grapes your parents ate
that was their choice not your’s
I believe a father’s child can change their own ways.
And I know that this is something that I’ve said before
But there’s time and these things can be restored.”
And I won’t stop until we all make it there.
And we will sing a new song like
“Arghhh-wooooo
We are slaves to no thing, no thing
Arghhh-wooooo
It’s for freedom we have been set free!”

Selfishness (God Damn it)
Selflessness will be the only song I sing
I pray that I will lose my breath
If my lips find a different melody
And all my days, until my grave,
I pray my song remains the same
And should I fall I’m thankful that there’s Grace
Selfishness, God Damn it!
And if you’re really listening
Then please understand that I mean it
I don’t want to dance ‘round language
I just want that filthy vile disgusting thing
As far away from us as it can be
Amen.

Levi
Your life
Is more than just a body in a casket
Is more than only words on a stone tablet
Is more than any language can ever explain
Still it helps me to try anyway
Your life
Is still the blood that pulses throughout my veins
Is still elaborate pathways throughout our brains
Is still the love and respect
That you taught me
By the way you lived your days
I’m not so sure anymore
That we die
Life just takes on a new face.

Flowers
I was only a cup of water
Maybe a vase at best
I might give you color for a month or two
Then leave an empty feeling in your chest
Darling, flowers were made for the garden
I’m not quite everything you need
I beg your pardon
Nothing more than just a handful of soil
Girl I’m nothing to impress
We would both run dry
Then with tears in our eyes
Decide it’s best to lay this thing to rest
Darling, flowers were made for the garden
I’m not quite everything you need
I beg your pardon
Well, I may have been a little ray of sunshine
Hopefully better than the rest
Oh but honey you deserve the whole damn sun
And every gold moment it reflects
Darling you were made for a garden
And I’m just not him
Darling you were made for a garden
Don’t settle just yet

Come and Be
03:45
|
|||
Come and Be
Come
Come and be with Me
I am dust
And I am eternity
I long jealously
Only just to be
With you
So, come
Come and fade into the light
Join the other colors bright
Come and be with Me
Oh, come
Come ascend into the dark of night
Lose your pride and gain your sight
Come and be with Me
Come
Come and be with Me
I am none
And I am everything
I want desperately
Only just to be
With you
So, come
Come and fade into the light
Join the other colors bright
Come and be with Me
Oh, come
Come ascend into the dark of night
Lose your pride and gain your sight
Lost yourself and gain your life
Come and be with Me
O come, O come and be with Me
O come, O come and be
